Frank Shannon family papers, 1828-1912.

Correspondence, ephemera, and creative works document the family history of Frank Shannon through the records of members of the Byrne, Hany, Wallis, Wallace, and Steen families. Correspondence concerns the publishing work of D. Byrne, the difficulties encountered by the Rev. James Wallis as he travels to San Antonio to preach, observations about conditions in Lavaca, Texas, in 1851 offered by Ellen Wallis, and an 1877 congratulatory letter and advice about a woman's role in marriage sent by W.P. Holloway to Miss Nannie. A 1912 postcard records the image of the printing office in Wharton, Texas. An obituary documents the life of Frances Byrne. An 1877 poem, portions of a sermon, and a genealogical record of the David Wallace and Nancy Hany descendants provide insight into aspects of the family life of Frank Shannon's forebears.
